A Special Resolution of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara (including a postal ballot) has been passed by postal ballot ratifying the Deed of Settlement, and to allow the trustees of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust and Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Tari Pupuritaonga Trust to enter into the Deed. Tirohia o nga korero o Kaipara! This website belongs to Ngati Whatua o Kaipara, a claimant group of whanau from the five marae in south Kaipara who joined together in 1992 and lodged their Treaty claims against the Crown. They presented their evidence to the Waitangi Tribunal in 1999. In its report of 2006, the Tribunal found the claims to be comprehensive and substantial and urged the claimants and the Crown to enter negotiations. Ngati Whatua o Kaipara seeks relief from the Crown in respect of the alienations of land and prejudicial Crown policy in the claim area since 1840. The claim also seeks compensation for the claimants and the return of Crown and State-Owned Enterprise land in the claim area.
‘Whaia te kotahitanga’ is the driving force behind this Treaty claim being successful. To that end this website is another communication tool to keep all whanau connected to the whenua in this rohe informed of progress and able to participate in the process.
