Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara (NMWoK - the representative post Treaty settlement entity for Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara / NWoK) purchased land under Woodhill and Riverhead Forests from the Crown in 2013, and then Oneonenui Farm in 2024. The subsidiary NMWoK Ngahere Ltd manages the organisation’s forestry, farm and related interests.
Over the years, Ngahere Ltd has managed a team of kaitiaki who have patrolled the forests and farm and surrounding areas, informing the public about use of easements; accessing the estates and their attractions; health and safety; assisting with security (eg. checking gates, monitoring for illegal / dangerous activity and trespass, assisting in the case of emergencies); supporting and promoting NMWoK (and NMWoK associated) businesses and activities; hosting, guiding and monitoring whānau and visitors; maintenance; caring for wāhi tupuna; pest management; environmental improvement and protection (eg. planting); and advocating for the care of our ancestral resources (eg. beach / dunes and kai moana).
We are now looking for a new part-timer to join our kaitiaki team.
The role requires frequent weekend, public holiday and ‘out of usual business hours’ work.
The role is very broad – requiring a wide set of skills and attributes. The successful applicant must be fit and willing to do physical work. They must also be very sensible, trustworthy, well-spoken / articulate and good with people. It would be of benefit if they have an understanding of working with tablets / laptops and on-line, recording data and writing basic reports – both in hard copy and electronically / on-line. They must a hold full, clean driver’s licence and be willing to undergo a Police background check, as well as workplace drug testing. Knowledge of the Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara community and Te Reo Māori / tikanga Māori would be advantageous.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Ngahere Ltd team working in and around our forests / farm and across the ever-increasing portfolio of activities and businesses we are associated with. Although the breadth of the role is challenging, it also means that every day can be different and interesting.
If you would like to put yourself forward, please supply by 14 April, 2025, an application letter setting out your interest and an up to date cv to:
PO Box 315, Kumeu 0810

In 2024 Ngahere Ltd (with the approval of the NMWoK Development Trust) made a very significant investment on behalf of Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara – purchasing Oneonenui farm.
Oneonenui is a working farm with a stunning landscape and rich cultural heritage of great importance to Ngāti Whātua.
Oneonenui immediately borders Woodhill Forest and adds a world of possibility to our growing visitor experience / tourism offerings. Development of facilities is underway.
Ngahere is also advanced in negotiations with an energy company around the development of an energy facility in Woodhill (primarily wind).
Finally, later in April we will open managed access to walking trails in the southern end of Woodhill Forest. Registered hapū members can have free membership of the Hīkoi Ngātahi walking club.
Ngahere invites whānau to come and see / discuss these developments and opportunities on your estates.
We will gather at 10am on Sunday, 13 April at Ngahere offices (71 Restall Rd, Woodhill) and then Ngahere staff will lead a field trip across the forest and farm, finishing with lunch.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by April 6, 2025, to:
